autumn with Tree-leaf Woman

Who speaks the sound of an echo?

Who paints the image in a mirror?

Where are the spectacles in a dream?

Nowhere at all–that’s the nature of the mind!

~Tree-leaf Woman (J. Hirshfield, Women in Praise of the Sacred)

  1. This is fantastic – both the photo and the poem. I really appreciated the message of the poem, this moved me deeply. I’m working with how the mind is only a tool to stay focused on the love / good. Blessings, Brenda. ❤ Thanks. Debbie

    1. Thank you Debbie. I appreciate your thoughts. Tree-leaf Woman is reported to have lived in India sometime between 8th and 11th century. She was a practitioner of the Tantric Buddhist tradition. Hirshfield notes in the preface within in this section of her book is that this is “a rare experience of women prior to our own time deliberately collecting the poetry and teaching of other women explicitly because they were women.” _()_
