The Art of the Egg or the Egg and I

“It occurred to me that I have done an awful lot of egg drawings and paintings. Not quite sure why. It is a subject I use in my drawing classes quite frequently and I tell my students that if they can draw an egg, they can draw anything. It is like a little creature, a tiny model – and symbolic of so much: new life, fertility, possibilities … It is the perfect shape to to practice tone and get the 3-D effect. Some love this exercise; some will never look at an egg again!”*

lens-artists: five favs

As I spent part of the afternoon revisiting photo files in response to Tina’s invitation to share five favorite photographs, I began to ponder, “What are the variables within photographs that come together to create a place within the heart of the eyes?”

Photographs tell of silent, vague, faded memories. Photographs are of visual moments that have grasped one’s attention. Photographs share times of exploration, of travel, of life. Photographs are representations of impermanence, light and shadow, fantasy, composition, challenges, points of view, …

lens artists: perfect pairs

This week Albatz Travel Adventures (Elizabatz) invites photographers to offer examples of diptych, two images placed in proximity to one another, forming a pair. She notes: “to make a successful pairing there should be several things in common, and something very different, contrasting”.

I wish to thank Elizabeth for introducing me to the word diptych. Earlier this week, I also became acquainted with the word, polyglots, “individuals who can speak several languages – usually having a grasp of at least somewhere between 3-5 languages.
